In the Baca Grande, burn notifications and an annual burn site inspection are required. This process helps reduce unnecessary emergency responses. Call the Fire Department Administrator at the POA, 256-4171 to schedule an inspection. Call 589-5807 to notify us of a planned outdoor burn. (8:30 am – 8:30 pm)

Be aware of local fire bans in Crestone or the Baca. Call the Saguache County Sheriff ’s office at 655-2544 to check if a fire ban is in effect. Fire bans often last from mid June to September.

Keep fires small and never leave campfires unattended. Extinguish with water by soaking and stirring coals.

Put your fire out if it gets windy.
